Singapore Blog Awards mark MalcolmSunny.com 1st Year Anniversary

Last year, under the encouragement of a friend, Darren Ng I registered my previous blog malxc.livejournal.com for the Singapore Blog Awards. Needless to say, I didn’t even manage to get shortlisted as a finalist for any category.  Unsatisfied with just ranting about personal issues I faced, I started MalcolmSunny.com to scribble my happy thoughts.

A year on, blogging has certainly opened up a lot of opportunities for me. To begin with I got to know many friends. I remembered meeting Christina and Jeremy during last year’s Singapore Twitter Frenzy at Wave House, Sentosa which shaped my thinking of blogging. Previously I had always viewed my blog as a personal online journal for me to share my feelings with friends.

My interest in lifestyle blogging started while I doing marketing for Singapore Flyer and studying part-time at SIM University. Initially started out as a channel for me to hone my writing skills, blogging has become an integrated part of my life and a passion now. It has opened up more opportunities for networking, invitations to exclusive product launches and previews as well as trips overseas.

Thanks to Omy.sg, I was given the opportunity to experience Brunei and it was during that trip that I got to know Karen, Andy, Tiffany and Deenise. Besides catching up like Bruneian bloggers, we also exchanged tips on blogging and social media.

I’m very proud of my travel mates. In fact, all four of them were the finalists for this year’s Singapore Blog Awards. Karen and Deenise were also nominated for several categories.

Held at Shanghai Dolly, I spotted familiar faces and friends like Smith Leong, William Tan, Elrica, Mint Leong, Regina Chow, Joey Ong, Darren Sim, Hong Peng and Tse Lyn who were the finalists for the main and special categories for this year’s Singapore Blog Awards. Blogger friends like Joyce, Valentine, Colin and Damien were there to cheer them on too. Luke and Shirley were also the finalists but I didn’t manage to spot them.

Happy “Sweet 17” Birthday to NYDC

Teen stars Edwin Goh and Jayley Woo joined celebrity food bloggers Catherine Ling (camemberu.com), Miss Tam Chiak (misstamchiak.com) and Velda Tan (belluspuera.blogspot.com) in an evening of fun, laugher and “gastronomic intoxication” as NYDC celebrated their Sweet 17 on 18 September 2012 at their Bugis Junction’s outlet.

I was lucky to win the @ChurpChurp invite for the party on Tuesday. I was even more delighted to know that fellow blogger friends, Jeremy Li (jeremysg.blogspot.com) and Valentine Low (enidlareg.blogspot.sg) were attending the event too. It’s been a long time since I caught up with Valentine and I was happy to find out on the spot that we were arranged to sit together.

Also on the same table were popular blogger, Catherine Ling (aka Camemberu) and connected with new friends – Amanda Lee (@__amandalee), Janice Yik (@janiceyik) and Samantha Kaylee (@samankaylee). I also took photo with William Tan (onlywilliam.blogspot.com).

Hosted by my favorite YES 9.33 DJ, Lim Peifen (@LimPeifen), we’re entertained by engaging games and her energetic hosting as we sank our teeth into NDYC newest additionals to their menu.

The first game we played was “Food Search”. It was a word search puzzle where we had to hunt for the items on their menu. We were the second team to complete the task. But unfortunately we accidentally circle one extra letter and we didn’t manage to win the vouchers.

To keep our occupied in between the serving, we played the second game “The Moment” where teams were given a new food item and we were supposed to come out with a tagline relating to a particular moment in our live. Our entry “A Coffee Affair – A romance you can have anytime, only at NDYC”  won first prize and each of us were rewarded with a $20 voucher!

We also played the longest breath game. Simply said, “NYDCcccccccccccccccccccccccccccc..” My team mate and I both tried but were unsuccessful at breaking Edwin’s longest breath record.

In celebration of their “Sweet 17”, diners can look forward to two popular comeback items “Romeo & Juliet” as well as “Picasso Pizza”. Not party was complete without boozing and no one could do it better than hiding the alcohol inside the gastronomic treats. I really love the Waldorf with a Hic, Drunken Masta and Nutty Cookie Cruncher. 😀

Three lucky winners of “Post us a birthday message” contest were awarded with one year supply of mudpies! Wow, I would really love to befriend them, eat mudpies and grow fat. Hahaha…

Waldorf with a Hic… this sexy salad is Irish with whisky soaked grapes!

Skinny Dip Chips… have your choice of spicy chili beef, blue cheese or artichoke blend dips

Romeo & Juliet… herb baked rice complete with bacon and sweet corn

Picasso Pizza… make your pizza artistic by choosing your own toppings

Drunken Masta… choose your drunken level with one shot, two shots or three shots of tequila to accompany the seafood pasta with tiger prawns, dory fillet and clams

Yankee’s in Town… check out chicken chutes and sausage wrapped with delicious bacon

Cheesecakes… A Passion for Cheesecake (with passion fruit), Sourpuss on the Loose (lemon tart), P-nut Buttered Up (peanut butter included), Englishman in New York (with Earl Grey)

Mudpies… I’m Goin’ Bananas (yellow, yellow banana) and Sealed with a Kiss (minty kiss)
