Set up by three friends with experience in sourcing, marketing and logistic. Jada, one of the co-founders, is a fashion designer and General Manager of a fashion retailer serving international markets. Her previous experience in furnishing her new place abroad made her realise that shopping for furniture could be a real headache, and constantly questioned, “Why can’t I get beautiful furniture with good quality at affordable prices?”

Leveraging on e-commerce technology that makes online shopping popular in Singapore, homemakers can now get designer furniture at the convenience of a click. The online model has also made it possible to offer prices 20-40% lower than other designer furniture brands by reducing overheads such as salesman commission, showroom and manpower costs, and by getting products directly from manufacturers.

Luxe Women – Deluxe Not Just for Women

My body was sore from all the Physical Abuse I received from my personal training. It was god-sent when I was invited to Luxe Women’s Blogger Party. After all my body could do with some tender-loving care and pampering being offered by the award-winning nail-trending salon.

IMG_7428

In this present age, manicure and pedicure are no longer the exclusive right of women. More men are jumping into this business of personal grooming to get professional assistance in taking care of their nails. But if you’re an Alpha male and nails treatment is not your kind of pampering, fear not, because Luxe Women’s new outlet at Sembawang offers integrated services for both men and women to enjoy.

Conveniently located at Sembawang MRT, this shop within shop inside Station33 is an one-stop service centre that combines spa, nail care, eye brown services, waxing (for women only), hair styling and massage all in one unisex salon. It is an ideal place for couple living in the north to spend half a day pampering their body and soul together.

IMG_7439 IMG_7377 2

Last week, together with male bloggers, Damien and Don, we had the chance to experience i-SPA – soaking our feet in the 7 colour LED Jacuzzi Foot Bath Therapy while our body relax to the tune of the massage chair. The treatment was completed with Aroma-scrub and Mask with comfort and relaxation of a tablet with a range of movies to keep us entertain while the therapist worked on removing dead skin from our feet.

IMG_7392 2 IMG_7395

After a quality feet treatment, we were ushered to ZuYue Foot Reflexology where our feet were kneaded by trained therapists who ensured that the pressure on our feet were just right. There is also a tablet attached to every chair and I was watching Captain America while getting the reflexology done. The session was completed with a head and shoulder massage for a holistic relaxation experience.

IMG_7410 IMG_7408 IMG_7411

For a limited period only, ZuYue Foot Reflexology is offering 60-minute foot massage at $25nett. Normal rate for foot massage is $28 for 40 minutes and body massage is $28 for 30 minutes. To avoid disappointment, call 6758 6519 to book an appointment today. The outlet at Sembawang MRT Station (inside Station33) is usually crowded from late afternoon onwards.

IMG_7416 2

To celebrate the opening of this new branch, Luxe Women is giving free nail art (worth $20) with every spa nail service. Luxe Women is the first nail-trending salon and their specialities include Bridal Nails, Nail Arts, Art-Pro Nail Printing, Gel Polish, Embroidery Services and many more.

Many thanks to Jac and the staff from Luxe Women and ZuYue Foot Reflexology for hosting us at the Blogger Party and special thanks to Mag Chow for the recommendation.

Lion Earl Roars at Nation Pride

What would you design if you are given the task to come up with the new collection of Singapore Pride? 21 PARCO next NEXT designers took on the challenge, using the most basic staple found in everyone’s wardrode, to present a limited edition t-shirt that represent their interpretation of this nation.

It was a pre-birthday party like no one, as I was treated to a night of fashion show, music, champagne and nostalgic bite size treats at the launch of Nation Pride at PARCO next NEXT on 2 August 2013. Furthering the theme of all things local, retro Singaporean treats were served by dolled up Snack Studs and Candy Chicks.

“We are celebrating National Day with Pride and Passion. Our young emerging designers came up with an exclusive Tee, inspired by our great Nation. For the first time, 6 of our PARCO next NEXT alumni designers are also invited to show along with the current designers. The cool and eternally hip T-shirt best symbolizes Singapore Style!” said Mr David Wang, Project Advisor of PARCO next NEXT and Chairman of the Designers and Retailers Group, Textile and Fashion Federation, (Singapore) (TaFf).

Using white, the color of purity, clarity and virtue. The white cotton top from Lion Earl is inspired from the rectangular outline of the flag with the addition of cut-out sleeves. Designed for the modern woman, one who is strong, capable and confident, the feel of this top portrays a slight military and armor-shell like look to celebrate Her growth throughout the years.

“Singapore to us is a women with strong determination that will keep going forward. She is our home and shelter from which we grew along with her throughout the years.” said Lionel Low, Creative Director of Lion Earl.

Other uniquely Singaporean designs from the Nation Pride 2013 Collection include:

The iconic Merlion is reinterpreted on an embellished T-shirt by Foreword. 20:TwoThree and KaeHana took a trip down memory lane by re-imagining the Good Morning towel and White Rabbit Milk Candy (respectively) from our childhood. Mash-Up once again displayed their distinctive sense of humor with a hand-drawn map of local hunts.

WSDM’s black T-shirt in camouflage print is inspired by the designer’s days in National Service and evenodd’s T-shirt reflects the various Singapore landmarks from the new (Marina Bay Sands) to the heritage (Kampong Glam & HDB, etc).

Ms. Lai Sau Kuen, General Manager Corporate of Parco (Singapore) Pte. Ltd, adds, “Nation Pride has always been a great opportunity for Parco to not only showcase our very own PARCO next NEXT fashion designers, but also actively collaborate with local talents from various creative fields like the arts, music, theatre, etc.  so as to lend our support and help raise  awareness for  these gifted individuals and groups.”

Men stripped jeans to win prizes at Levi’s 501 Party

Warning: The content of this blog post may content materials NSFW (not safe for work), if you find men stripping off their jeans on stage offensive, I suggest you skip this post. Just kidding! There’s nothing really obscene about this, because I have censored it for you.

DSC01991

Last Wednesday, I attended the 987FM RSVP Party at Zouk. The last time I went 987FM RSVP, I ended up on stage hugging a FHM girl (click here to read about it) so this time round, I decided to remain low profile and watched how the contestants had fun.

DSC02004 DSC02007

Actually, we were slightly late. By the time we entered the club, Double D Dee Kosh & Divian and Sonie had already selected members from the audience to come and join them on stage. The instructions for the first game was to get the female contestants to string through the jeans of the male contestants and the male Levi’s models with a thin rope. One of the male contestants’ jeans was too tight and in a good spot, and under the encouragement of the DJs, he stripped!

DSC02001

Of cos, some of us were shocked, more so by his courage than by the act itself. Judging from the video below, the guy was probably traumatized after the game and needed a beer to calm his nerves.

[Credit: www.onlywilliam.blogspot.com, click here to read about William Tan’s blog post.]

The programme went on with dance performance followed by models catwalking down the runway with the collection of Levi’s 501 fashion.

DSC02009DSC02010DSC02013DSC02014DSC02015 DSC02018

After the fashion show, The Muttons Vernon and Justin played a game of telematch with local celebrities, Ya Hui and Ian Fang, who are also Levi’s 501 ambassadors.

DSC02019 DSC02020 DSC02022 DSC02023DSC02027 DSC02028

William Tan from www.onlywilliam.blogspot.com took part in the telematch which involved putting on a pair of jeans and bottoming up a mug of beer.

DSC02029

Judging from the photo above, if you guess that Ya Hui’s team had won, you’re right!

To round off the evening, DJ Rozz and Bobby from the Rude Awakening played the final game “pass the bag”. Every time the music stopped, the participants had to pull out a piece of clothing in the bag and wear it.

DSC02032 DSC02033 DSC02037 DSC02039

Somehow this guy (in the pictures below) kept pulling out jeans from the bag. Maybe he was under the influence of alcohol, he decided to remove his own pair of jeans and put on the one he took from the bag. And he did it twice, probably in an attempt to win more attention than the male contestant who stripped during the first game.

DSC02040 DSC02042 DSC02043

And there was also this other male participant who was really sporting. Eventually he had a “make-over” and did an impromptu catwalk to entertain us.

DSC02048 DSC02049

The evening continued with free flow of beer and house pour till 10 pm.

Remember to tune in to 98.7FM on your radio or xin.msn.com for ONLY THE HITS! And check out their Facebook page for more photos of  this 987 RSVP Party!

On the side note, I spotted Ryan Ang, one of the dancers that evening. He starred in the SilkPro commercial along with DJ Rozz. I am impressed the dance moves of Ryan and Rozz in the Hairvolution video.

PARCO next NEXT – Rocks the Rack

943128_10151388385971254_130323141_n

Welcome onboard and step up to PARCO next NEXT, where young designers’ vivid imaginations meet fashion fantasies, creating beautiful manifestations from myriad points of references.

On Saturday 18 May 2013, local fashion label, LION EARL invited us to join them on a fashion journey of discovery: from outer space to sailing on the high seas, from plain basics to Peranakan-inspired digital prints. From boxy, airy shapes to body-contour dressing and androgyny. From ghetto chic to the streets of Asia. We witness the launch of PARCO next NEXT latest collection.

Rêvasseur

“Run away and join the navy to sail the seven seas. From cute manga sailors to sexy sirens bidding “ships ahoy!”, Revasseur’s nautical inspiration has everything from naughty to nice!”

Comments: My first reaction to this collection by Revasseur was “oh, how cute!”, it was as if the characters from the famous Japanese manga ‘One Piece’ coming to live on the runway. As we all know Singapore is an island and what other way to bring out the sunny heritage of our country through this nautical-inspired fashion.

Comments: Have you heard of the mission to launch humans onto Mars by 2023? It’s okay if you are not a fan of astronomy because this new collection by Coupe-Cousu offers menswear from both the bold and conservative. Opt for the bright red to bring out your personality or choose the navy or grey clothing sprinkled with star dust, definitely make you shine during the company’s annual dinner and dance.

From left: Haziq Putra (Singapore), Sun Yi Jin (China), Odile Benjamin (RAOUL), Vu Ta Linh (Vietnam)

Temasek Polytechnic student from Apparel Design and Merchandising, Haziq Putra‘s “Pursuit to Freedom” took one of the competition’s three top spots. In addition, the 21-year-old also won the Audi Young Designer Award (AYDA), which is given to the winner whose creation best embodies the Audi design spirit of innovation, technology and progression.

Haziq’s menwear collection featured hand-dyed batik, from which he created a digital print. He also incorporated two distinct Kelantan icons – the Wau Bulan, a giant kite , and the ikan pari, or stingray.

“I thought the collection was very original and I like the fact you could see his design concept of the stingray flow right through. He was creative but not too over the top with progressive design, much like Audi. At the same time, the collection is very well made and seems to be market-ready. I can even see myself in some of his pieces!” commented Jeff Mannering, Audi Singapore’s Managing Director on Haziq’s design.

26-year-old Vietnamese, Vu Ta Linh won the judges over with “The Contour”, a womenwear collection inspired by the Vietnamese rice terraces Ruong Bac Thang in Sapa. Linh graduated from Hanoi London College of Fashion Studies in July 2012, and uses stitching, weaving and embroidery to capture the curves and waves of the Vietnamese heritage.

Bagging the third and final spot was 24-year-old Sun Yi Jin from China, whose womenwear collection drew on the Chinese costumes and handicraft techniques of the 56 ethnic groups in China.

Commenting on her win, judge David Wang, the Vice President of the Textile and Fashion Federation Singapore, said, “What impressed us most was the fact that the collection draws so strongly on history yet manages to come across as modern. That is exactly what we were looking for with this year’s InspirAsian theme – a designer who was able to dig deep into his/her own culture but emerge with something that would fit right in on the streets of New York or Tokyo.”

Each of the three winners will get $10,000 in cash from Audi Singapore, an internship with leading fashion retailer F J Benjamin and the chance to launch a capsule collection at Audi Star Creation 2014.

UT 2013 POP-UP!

DSC02318

On Friday, 3 May 2013 UNIQLO launched the UT POP-UP! Singapore held at 72-13 and transformed the two-level rice warehouse and cultural relic into a fashion and musical stage for the night, where a mega display installation of over 1,000 UTs in 400 designs took centre stage. Guests also had fun posing at the UT Camera Booth, where their animated photos were uploaded on the global UT website. Throughout the night, there were entertainment from local artists and free flow of champagne for the guests.

From chic formal wear to casual daily , from loungewear to underwear, UNIQLO has something for everyone. I have been a fan of UNIQLO especially with their UT which often collaborates with various brands for witty designs. It’s summer all year round in Singapore so T-shirts are particularly useful and have become a staple dress code for most people living in Singapore.

DSC02324 DSC02314 DSC02327 DSC02328

One of the highlights of the launch is the showcase of UNIQLO x NOISE Singapore collaboration. Young artists and photographers had the opportunity to showcase their original works while budding musicians rock on through the weekend long event. There were also limited edition t-shirts designed by Noise artists for sale.

My favorite design was The Singapore Dream by local illustrator, Lim Qi Xuan. You can see more of her work at http://www.qimmyshimmy.com

“The Fresh Grad Cat is a SIngaporean stereotype that has just left school and is entering the industry. After slogging through 16 years in the Singapore education system, it better all be worth it. With his shiny new degree and hungry for the job that pays the best, he does not know what exactly lies ahead. But he is going where the money goes, definitely! Someone’s got to save up to afford that COE,” said Qi Xuan.

Minnie meets Mickey on UT. Eve from Wall-E and UP! the movie are some of the upcoming designs.

DSC02344 DSC02347

The new series of UT with Toy Story characters like Buzz Lightyear, Mr Potato Head, Woody and the green, three-eyed rubber alien, the Little Green Men/Man.

DSC02346 DSC02342

Rather artistic looking design of Monster Inc. and the ever popular Snoopy from Peanuts.

New Yorker Keith Haring‘s art is also expressed onto the new UT! New designs will be available in store but in different batches so make sure you check out the UNIQLO outlets regular and look out for the new shipment.
